This portfolio brings together selected works by Stephen Johannessen and Samuel Johannessen in preparation for the project

Multiplicity: Figures, Memory and Landscape. Although the two practices differ in material, image structure, and point of

departure, they meet in a shared interest in figuration, memory, inheritance, and the relationship between individual presence

and collective form.

Samuel’s paintings emerge from a sense of psychological and cultural in-betweenness, shaped by repetition, scale, and layered

gesture, where figures appear as unstable, communal, and in motion. Stephen’s works approach memory, family, and place

through drawing, installation, and image-fragments that hold psychological and historical weight. Together, the practices form a

dialogue between immediacy and reflection, accumulation and restraint, surface and structure.

The project uses this meeting point to develop a body of work in which painting, drawing, installation, and spatial composition

operate as parts of one exhibition form. The portfolio is not intended as a full retrospective, but as a focused presentation of

works that inform the artistic language, themes, and collaborative direction of the project.
